Head of the Center: Ph.D. H S. Khachatryan
Diagnosis and treatment of hereditary and acquired diseases of blood and bone marrow are performed at the center of hemophilia and thrombophilia.
The following is treated in the Center
- The A, B, C types of hemophilia, Wilhelm's disease
- Thrombophilia, conditions due to traumatic disorders
- Coagulopathies of FV, FII, FI, FVII, FX, FXIII due to insufficient coagulation factors.
Hemophilia is a hereditary disease caused by blood disorder. Factors FVIII and FIX, responsible for blood coagulation are missing or in low percentage.
Hemophilia A affects 1 in 10,000 male births, hemophilia B affects 1 in 30,000.
Thrombophilia is a pathological condition of high blood levels characterized by the disorder of hemostatic proteins, procoagulants and anticoagulants, with high tendency to thrombocytosis. The world's first death rate is cardiovascular disease and it is important to note that the vessel and arterial thrombosis, thromboembolic complications, as well as ischemic attacks accompanied by cerebral palsy, have a high incidence of thrombosis (thrombophilia).
Consultation is given to patients who suffer from
- Hereditary thrombophilia types
- Protein C, S and deficiency of antithrombin III
- Thrombocytopenia receptors, fibrinogen molecular anomalies
- V, II, MTHFR genome polymorphism
Acquired Thrombophilia Tumors
- immune / anti-phospholipid syndrome, associated with autoimmune diseases
- vascularization of the veins, bone surgery and mechanical causes - prolonged immobilization, venous accuracy, trauma, artificial valve
- infectious processes, HIV, chickenpox, hepatitis, HIV
- Metabolic, Hyperhomocysteineemia, Hypertrophyemias
- nephrotic syndrome, tumors, liver diseases, due to other diseases
- medical- contraceptive, corticosteroids, aspartic and other anti-tumor products
Patients with hemophilia in Armenia
The number of patients with hemophilia in the registry of Hematology Center has reached 236, of which 57 are children under the age of 18.
The treatment of hemophilia in modern medicine is carried out in two directions:
“Prophilactic” - receive medication at an early age 2-3 times a week
“On demand”- when the medication is taken only in bleeding period
Treatment of hemophilia in the center is carried out within the framework of government subsidies.
Our cooperation and achievements
Implementation of the 2003 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the World Federation of Hemophilia and the Hematology Center made significant progress in organizing the treatment of hemophilia patients.
Over the past 14 years new modernized departments have been created:
- Hemostasis department
- Specialized Hemostasis Laboratory
- Register of patients with hemophilia and thrombophilia
A modern method of treatment of articular complications has been introduced.
Chemical synovectomy
In 2014 with the support of Novo Nordisk Hemophilia Foundation, the Center has won a grant program that has contributed to the development of hemophilic service. In the frames of the project the Center has cooperated with Hematology Centers of Italy, Lithuania and England. Educational programs have been organized in regional health care centers to raise awareness about blood diseases and coagulation systems.
The center provides "preventive" medical care to patients with severe and moderate pain.
A number of programs have been created such as
- "National Program for Hemophilia"
- "5-Year Development Program for Hemophilia"
- The Center is supported by
- Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Armenia
- Armenian Association of Hemophilia patients
- World Federation of Hemophilia
- The Center for Thrombosis and Hemophilia in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
- The Refractory Laboratory of the Rheumatology Coagulopathy of England
- Italian National Association of Donors
Partners from other countries, who support the Hemophilia Center, also provide support for the training of Armenian specialists.
